Troubleshooting and import limitations

Here are some of the most common issues you may encounter when you are importing and processing templates for Resourcebase. If you are still struggling with something, we offer real person guidance and advice, please contact us.

Images and graphics

  • Linked images

IDML import only - Only embedded images in InDesign are supported. Use the Links palette in InDesign to ensure images files are embedded as part of the IDML file you intend to upload.

  • EPS files

IDML import – Not supported in IDML import and should be replaced by cut-and-pasted artwork from AI or by SVG files (No CMYK option at present – coming).

PDF import – EPS artwork is supported in PDF import but it cannot be targeted as a variable element.

  • Placed PDF elements

PDF logos or graphics placed in InDesign cannot be targeted as variable content in the editor.

  • Complex tints and graduations

Complex tints and graduations may not be rendered correctly in some cases. If so, try SVG files formats or used a bitmap format if necessary.

  • SVG files

SVG files must always have outlined text. Export from AI – SVG options - use Styling = “presentation styling”; font = Convert to outlines; image = embed.

Text handling

  • Mixed line and paragraph spacing

Different leading (line spacing) and paragraph spacing in the same paragraph is not supported. Use separate text boxes in InDesign for these elements.

  • Text reflow

Text that flows between multiple text frames is not supported – update coming.

  • Tracked text

Tracked text (character spacing) will not be recognised and is reproduced at 100%. Manually reset tracking in the editor after import.

  • Manually condensed text

Manually condensed text (using % horizontal scale) will not be recognised and is reproduced at 100%. Use a condensed or semi-condensed font.

  • Baseline shift

Baseline shift in InDesign is not supported.

  • Tables

Tables can be imported through the PDF import (not IDML). Content can be edited but the table cannot be modified dynamically in the editor.

  • Tabs

Tabs are not recognised and are not available in the editor at present.

  • Bullet points

Bullet points are inherited from the import but indentation level and distance to text are fixed (not yet editable). Text frames with bullets may be moved manually to left align with other text – update coming.

Bullet shapes and colours are not yet supported.

If bullets are to be variable, they will need to be re-made in the editor to ensure correct reflow.

  • Superscript

Superscript and subscript are not yet supported – update coming

  • Paragraph rules

Paragraph line rule styles (above and below) are not supported and should be drawn manually in the editor.

  • Hyperlinked text

Hyperlinked text and other interactive features in InDesign are not carried forward to output PDFs. A tool to apply hyperlinks manually is coming.

  • Hyphenated text

All text in the Resourcebase editor will be unhyphenated.
